  • The Gym mat controversy is tied to the bun of the sandwich. The ingredient  azodicarbonamide has been used as a flour-bleaching agent across the industry. This has rapidly been phased out in the industry due to the Gym mat controversy.
  • While the McRib does tend to return in November, which often aligns with lower pork prices, stores are free to offer the sandwich throughout the year. Most recently, Florida offered the McRib into early spring in 2017.
