About Alan

From a deep hunger for the McRib, Alan created the McRib Locator to help all McRib fans find the elusive sandwich.

McRib arrives in the Twin Cities

Late on Thursday (Oct 13), I noticed Marc Merced had reported a McRib at a McDonalds in the Twin Cities (4121 Hiawatha Ave Minneapolis, MN). I was excited, but cautious. So I sent an email asking for a photo of the receipt. I received the receipt Friday morning. Around noon I gathered the McRib Mob at work and drove off to taste our first McRib of the season. We knew we were in for a treat upon seeing the window facing traffic had the McRib sign up.

We started to salivate, and hurried into the McDonalds. We were rushed with Welcomes from the staff as we entered this McDonalds at around 12:30pm. I was first to order. “A McRib Combo”, I asked. The lady at the next register pointed out that for $1 more I could have a second McRib. How could I pass this up? The three of us all made the same order.

As we left, one of the members of the mob asked how long the McRib would be on the menu. The lady at the register indicated a month and a half! He also asked if the second McRib for $1 applied to all combos. The answer was it only applied to the McRib combo. After leaving with a satisfied feeling in my stomach, I searched out other signage at the McDonalds. Drive thru and a hanging banner welcomed us as we exited the parking lot.

Unfortunately, Kimberly was not able to join us at lunch time. As her hunger for the McRib verges on exceeding mine, I decided it was only fair that she get her feast as well. So back to McDonalds for supper. Kimberly took her McRib with the standard dehydrated onions (those served on other sandwiches at McDonalds), and passed her pickles to me. Kim made her order sans fries/drink ($5.58), and I ordered the combo with extra $1 McRib ($5.40). So offer the drink and fries to the next person in line if you do not want them!

(Yes, I am a Twins fan and have Irish heritage.)

The remains of our feast.

We were stuffed when done. I would have to say the supper McRibs tasted better than those from lunch. Perhaps it was that they were more fresh, or perhaps it was the company I was with. I couldn’t eat my second McRib I was so full, and Kim had a few bites from her second remaining so those made it home to the fridge. I almost forgot, we left behind a McRibLocator.com pen for the next folks to dine at the table we had been at.

Now to cut my hair….

McRib News October 11, 2011

A few notable items as McRib season spins up.

1) McDonalds has launched their McRib promotional page at http://mcdonalds.com/us/en/promotions/mcrib.html It appears that there will be some type of online game with “The Quest for the Golden McRib”. Will the winner get a trip to visit the land of boneless pigs, or will they get some other generous prize? 2 weeks and we will know.

2) Just as important on the McDonalds promotional page, the official release of the McRib is called out as October 24. There is still hope for those of us that have not yet this year dined on the bliss that is the McRib.

3) Rumors are floating into our inbox hinting that this McRib season may be elongated. Greg from Hicksville, NY indicates that the management at the local corporately owned McDonalds indicated that this season is a 3 month test run. Depending on the results, the McRib may continue to return annually, only return in limited runs, or may become a regular item. For those of you wondering how to get the McRib to stick around, please be sure to visit the McDonalds at 280 North Broadway, Hicksville, NY and purchase as many McRibs as you can!
