Japan return of the McRib, has chance to become a regular menu item

Japan finally has had their wait for the McRib return come to an end! It is being temporarily offered as part of a contest where one of three reoccurring limited time sandwiches will become a regular menu item. They note it has been 7 years since they last had the McRib there, and is currently only the 8th time since 2001, see more about that release here.

The contest requires participants to either scan a QR code on the sandwich to vote, or to send out a tweet indicating they want their sandwich to win. The three sandwiches in the contest are the McRib, Teriyaki Chicken Filet, and a breakfast sandwich Tamago Double Mack. As of this post, the McRib is trailing the other two options.Voting results as of 5/19Reasons for why the McRib is behind? Brazil – Cheddar McRib

The McRib has returned to Brazil (thank you for the heads up Leonardo)! The offering in Brazil this year is part of their #FestivalCheddar, rounding out a trifecta of cheddar sauce enhanced offerings. The festival kicked off September 12, 2017.

Taking a closer look at the McRib, we see it served on a sesame seed circular sandwich bun, with what appears to be caramelized onions layered over cheddar cheese sauce on top of the 100% Pork McRib Patty which rests on BBQ sauce. This offering also differs from the classic McRib as it does not include pickles and the pork patty does not appear to be slathered with bbq sauce.

Within the commercial, we see a person eating the McRib sandwich. We can see that the patty extends outside of the bun due to the shape of the patty being rectangular vs the circular bun.

McRib has returned in El Salvador!

While the McRib is just starting to return in the US market, it has been on the menu in El Salvador since October 20th. The McDonald’s El Salvador limited time offering appears to be offered as traditionally served in the United States. mcribelsalvador3 Their current promotion is 2 McRibs, paired with the McPatatas (potato wedges), and Soda for $9.45 SVC (around $1.08 US).

McRib returns in Spain for 2016 appearance

Once again the McRib has jumped onto the menu for McDonalds customers in Spain. We were tipped off by Emilio with the following photo of his McRib.

While advertised as the BBQ Rib sandwich, this variation is served on what appears to be a cornmeal topped bun, a bit different in composition than the bun used on the traditional US version.

Malta McRib and Chicken Sensation

McRib Returns to Malta

About a week ago we received word that the McRib had returned in Malta (sorry for the delay, I had been ill). The offering in Malta is of the traditional McRib variety, however is advertised as part of a duo of saucy sandwiches. The McRib’s partner is the Chicken Sensation, a chicken sandwich with honey mustard.

The nutrition page for the McRib mentions that the sandwich is back by popular demand confirming that it is possible to get the sandwich back if enough people ask for it.Malta McRib Nutrition Page.
