Latest McRib News – November 19, 2014

As we enter what is likely the end of the season for some locations, we have received encouraging news that other locations will continue to have the McRib for a bit longer. One fan in Pennsylvania indicated that he was told the McRib would remain on the menu through mid-December.
Meanwhile, Hawaii will see the McRib at least into the first few days of December as they begin their bargain deal on a second McRib.

A few other rumors have floated in indicating the McRib may still return in parts of the Northeast as well as parts of Florida where the sandwich has yet to make an appearance this season. These rumors are slightly suspect as we have received word that McRib patty production ended the last weekend of October.

As we ask each year as the McRib season winds down, we need your help to get reports of where the McRib is so that fans can get their fill for the season as well as stock up for the offseason. McDonalds reveals what is in the McRib

As some of you have probably noticed, today McDonalds released their latest in their series of “Our food. Your Questions. Today’s featured non other than the McRib.
There were several videos, and I have placed them all in this post so you can easily track them down.

Growing up on a farm that included pork production, we know where the McRib really comes from. McDonalds provides an overview of how the McRib came to be.

We have heard outrageous claims in the past of what the McRib is made of, some of which are scraps of meat, unicorns, or kangaroos. McDonalds takes us to Lopez Foods in Oklahoma City to see what makes up the McRib and how does it get that famous rib shape. (Guess our invite got lost in the mail).

Makeshift McRibs

Only 2 weeks into McRib season, some locations are already running low on McRib components. Melissa confirmed the McRib was back in Murphy, TX, however the bun served was that of the Big Mac/Quarter Pounder sesame seed top variety.

This has happened in the past, with additional McRib buns arriving yet that season for those locations. This type of issue isn’t necessarily surprising. As the patties are frozen, their shelf life is longer than the buns used to serve the McRib. If anything, this hints that the McRib is selling better at this location as they didn’t stock enough bread for the demand.

Other past component shortages were regarding the McRib box. In that case, the McNugget box was offered in place of the McRib box.

Quick Look McRib Availability Thus Far

Having just caught up on the confirmation emails (thank you for your emails!), I thought it would be interesting to take a quick look at a few metrics on how the season is going thus far.
As of the time of this post, there have been 1,177 McRib Reports made on the website. Of these, there have been 306 confirmed (recall that confirmed means the reporter pinned them at http://mcriblocator.com/report.html and sent us an email with a photo of their receipt showing location as well as McRib purchase).

McRib Count Per State

States lacking confirmations thus far are Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, North Dakota, Arkansas, Michigan, New York, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. We suspect at least a few of these states are serving the McRib. If you know someone in one of these states, please ask them to check their local McDonalds and let us know if they find the McRib is available! One thing that stands out is that the New England states have decided against bringing the McRib back. Perhaps the McLobster will return there this year instead as was done earlier this summer in Canada.

Nebraska goes all in for 2014 McRib release

The Lincoln Journal Star (Nebraska) is reporting that the McRib will be available at all Nebraska locations (minus a few Walmart McDonalds locations that lack sufficient space) by next week. It is clear that Nebraska knows what the fans want, and welcomes bringing back the food item that a former University of Nebraska-Lincoln meat scientist made possible with an amazing invention back in 1981.
