The McRib will be available until….
I thought I would take an opportunity to touch back on some rumors regarding how long the McRib will be available in the USA this year.
The story written by Christana Rexrode indicates that the McRib will be around until November 14th. One of my contacts in the know has also indicated the 14th would be the last date the McRib would be available.
Interestingly, the Facebook Golden McRib game indicates a longer duration for the McRib.
Also rounding out the rumor mill is an email I received back around October 11, 2011 from Greg O. from Hicksville, NY. In this email Greg wrote that the management at the store on North Broadway indicated the McRib is on a 3 month trial to determine the future of if the McRib will return permanently, or at what interval it should be back.
Have you heard any other rumors from your local McDonalds on how long the McRib will be back? Feel free to comment on this post so that other fans can hear if there will be opportunities for last chance McRibs as the season winds down.

Golden McRib Contest
More details are starting to filter in regarding the upcoming Golden McRib Contest that McDonalds is putting on this year. Earlier today, Kimberly discovered this link to the contest, which gives slightly more information about the upcoming contest than the earlier found link found on the McDonalds Website. It appears that it will be an online contest ran via the McDonalds Facebook account.
The page above hints to “weirdly wonderful guardians” that attempt to thwart your efforts in the contest. I am going to speculate that there may be alternate prizes along the way that you might be able to pursue instead of the ultimate prize (yet to be identified).
As for the weird pixels to the left of the butterfly-pirate, I tried loading the page in both Safari and Firefox on my iMac and the artifact was there in both scenarios. Not sure what it means, if anything at all.

Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes at McRib Locator
Here at McRib Locator, we strive to give you the most accurate McRib Location information possible. We do what we can to enter in McRib sightings and confirmations, however do rely upon other McRib fans to help us in tracking the saucy goodness. We thank you all for your McRib tracking contributions.
First: To make entered locations as accurate as possible, we have made a location lookup upgrade.
When you arrive at McRibLocator.com you will still see this:
You will enter as much information about the McDonalds location as you have:
When you click “Submit” you will be moved to a page that will look like this:
These are the 10 McDonald locations nearest to the address or city you entered. You simply click “Click here to select this location” to confirm which McDonalds you found the McRib! If your McDonalds does not show up on the list, click the link at the bottom “My McDonalds is not listed, just send what I typed!”. At this time, this feature will only apply to locations in the United States.
You will then be redirected back to the map where you can confirm your location was pinned on the map.
We hope this change will assist in quality checking of the pinned United States locations. For instance, instead of simply knowing there is a McRib somewhere in NYC, there should be an actual McDonalds location entered!
Second: We have added a Country of sighting drop down option.
We do default this option to the United States as the bulk of our traffic comes from the US, however you should be able to find your country in the list if you are reporting a McRib sighting outside the US. If your country is not in the list, just let us know and we will add it.
If you have comments or questions about the upgrade, please contact us!

McRib arrives in the Twin Cities
Late on Thursday (Oct 13), I noticed Marc Merced had reported a McRib at a McDonalds in the Twin Cities (4121 Hiawatha Ave Minneapolis, MN). I was excited, but cautious. So I sent an email asking for a photo of the receipt. I received the receipt Friday morning. Around noon I gathered the McRib Mob at work and drove off to taste our first McRib of the season. We knew we were in for a treat upon seeing the window facing traffic had the McRib sign up.
We started to salivate, and hurried into the McDonalds. We were rushed with Welcomes from the staff as we entered this McDonalds at around 12:30pm. I was first to order. “A McRib Combo”, I asked. The lady at the next register pointed out that for $1 more I could have a second McRib. How could I pass this up? The three of us all made the same order.
As we left, one of the members of the mob asked how long the McRib would be on the menu. The lady at the register indicated a month and a half! He also asked if the second McRib for $1 applied to all combos. The answer was it only applied to the McRib combo. After leaving with a satisfied feeling in my stomach, I searched out other signage at the McDonalds. Drive thru and a hanging banner welcomed us as we exited the parking lot.
Unfortunately, Kimberly was not able to join us at lunch time. As her hunger for the McRib verges on exceeding mine, I decided it was only fair that she get her feast as well. So back to McDonalds for supper. Kimberly took her McRib with the standard dehydrated onions (those served on other sandwiches at McDonalds), and passed her pickles to me. Kim made her order sans fries/drink ($5.58), and I ordered the combo with extra $1 McRib ($5.40). So offer the drink and fries to the next person in line if you do not want them!
(Yes, I am a Twins fan and have Irish heritage.)
The remains of our feast.
We were stuffed when done. I would have to say the supper McRibs tasted better than those from lunch. Perhaps it was that they were more fresh, or perhaps it was the company I was with. I couldn’t eat my second McRib I was so full, and Kim had a few bites from her second remaining so those made it home to the fridge. I almost forgot, we left behind a McRibLocator.com pen for the next folks to dine at the table we had been at.
Now to cut my hair….
If you find the McRib, make sure to to enter your sighting at http://mcriblocator.com. To have your sighting promoted to confirmed status, send us a photo (photos@mcriblocator.com) of your receipt so that your sighting may be promoted to confirmed! Bonus for those that also send a photo of themselves enjoying the McRib, we will share these on the blog.
