McRib Returns in the United States for the 2013 Season

Just in from an email confirmation and from the Twitterverse, the McRib has returned in the United States for the 2013 season. Currently the McRib can be found in the Mile High City of Denver, CO as well as in surrounding locations along the I-25 corridor. @MrEerieMist feasted on a McRib in Porter, CO, and Mike emailed a photo of his receipt from Westminister, CO (and grabbed the first confirmed sighting of the season). @tobykdotcom also shared some of the signage at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Centennial, CO. Note that in the photo from @tobykdotcom the promotion for purchasing a second McRib for a mere single dollar will return again this season for some locations.

While the late August roll out is a bit earlier than typically has been the trend these past years, the early September release sounded within reason per our last post in July regarding the production spinning up. We started seeing some reports filter in Thursday August 22, 2013 in the Rocky Mountain State, and now with confirmation we start the pondering of where might the McRib show up next, and how long might it be staying around.

If/when you find a McRib, please mark your sighting at McRibLocator.com and be sure to send us a photo (photos@mcriblocator.com) of your receipt showing the purchase so that we may mark it as confirmed.

McRibs Retired for the Season

The McRib’s seasonal retirement appears to have returned, we must resort to reflecting back on those great McRibs we had this past season.

The McRib is not the only retiree this season. A law enforcement official on the East Coast received a fitting send-off with a McRib Retirement Cake from The Cake Constructor. Now that is a retirement party nobody is soon to forget!

While not as creative of an achievement, Kim and I recently were able to enjoy a meal with two participants that have rarely been spotted together. On Feb. 5, 2013 after several calls to confirm the availability of the McRib, we were able to have the McRib and Shamrock Shake in the same meal. How rare is this? See Season 1 Episode 1 (the Pilot) of Raising Hope (jump to 7:37 into the episode) and listen to what Dana has to say.

Have you had a unique McRib related event this year? If so, we would love to share it with other McRib fans. Drop us a line with your story (and pictures if you have them).

BOGO McRibs Continue in Los Angeles Area

Showing that they are in for the long haul, a McDonalds in the LA area stepped up their advertising from a simple sheet of paper to a more formal ad (note I spliced together the two images I was sent to show off the full ad):

Notice that the promotion runs through February 15, 2012 OR while supplies last.

This leaves one to wonder how many McRibs this store actually ordered, or if their sales were that far off for some reason. I can tell you with certainty, if this promotion was running in my neighborhood, the McRibs would run out well in advance of Feb 15. For now, all I have is Californian Dreamin, although hopefully not a crazed dream like this one I found.

If you find a McRib, please mark your sighting at McRibLocator.com and be sure to send us a photo of your receipt showing the purchase so that we may mark it as confirmed. As the McRib has mostly gone back into hibernation, your help is needed in these increasingly desperate McRib times.

One Year Ago Today…

We take a moment today to reflect back on where we were 1 year ago this day. McDonalds had invited Kimberly and I to attend a McRib event “Legends of McRib” in New York City. This was unexpected, and greatly appreciated. Having never been to New York, it was an exciting opportunity to see the Big Apple and also dine on McRibs.
Upon arriving at the McDonalds just off of Times Square, we found that McDonalds had extended a fair effort to highlight the 3 of us identified as Legends. Not only was there a massively sized replica McRib, there were signs for each of the 3 of us, a computer lab for people to visit the McRib website, a video booth to record your McRib story, a photo booth so that you could take a picture at the event with various backgrounds, many many many balloons, and white (yes, I was surprised by this as well and joked that it would be stained with red BBQ by the end of the evening) furniture for us to sit on.

Joey “McRib” Erwin was identified as he seeks on the McRib every day that it is available in his hometown. Adam Winer was identified for the lengths from which he would travel for a McRib. The previous year, Adam had flown from New York to Chicago on a quest to find the McRib. He traveled by car from Chicago to St. Louis as part of this quest. I was identified for the efforts on the McRib Locator.

This McDonalds had a nice looking marquee out front, but just as amazing was the fact that this McDonalds had 3 stories of seating! The event was held on the 2nd floor, and half of the 3rd floor. Media sources had been provided access to the event, and throughout the evening we three “Legends” fielded various interviews regarding our McRib backgrounds. The event was hosted by Leo and John from theChive.com (follow this link to see their take on the Legends event).

Of course we did some sight seeing, Central Park, Ferry ride to see the Statue of Liberty from afar, Grand Central Terminal, Ground Zero, stopping by FAO Shwarz so that Kimberly could play/dance on the Giant Piano, soaking in Times Square on election night, stopping by the 5th ave Apple store among others.

It was a great experience, and Kimberly and I had a great time in the Big Apple. We zipped around to various landmarks on our tight schedule, however didn’t feel disappointed in what we saw (other than riding the subway well past one point of interest and having lost around 30 minutes there by the time we got back). Thank you again McDonalds for picking us to participate in the Legends of McRib experience, it is something we will never forget.
