McRib Fan of the Week – Jenny McCarthy

Awhile back, we were working on updating confirmed sightings and doing general site updates, we nearly fell off our chairs when Jenny McCarthy tweeted us asking about the McRib.

After nearly a week of tracking down California sightings and keeping Jenny in the loop, she found her McRib!

For her patience, persistance and simply pure fabulousness, Jenny McCarthy is our McRib Fan of the Week!

McRib arrives in the Twin Cities

Late on Thursday (Oct 13), I noticed Marc Merced had reported a McRib at a McDonalds in the Twin Cities (4121 Hiawatha Ave Minneapolis, MN). I was excited, but cautious. So I sent an email asking for a photo of the receipt. I received the receipt Friday morning. Around noon I gathered the McRib Mob at work and drove off to taste our first McRib of the season. We knew we were in for a treat upon seeing the window facing traffic had the McRib sign up.

We started to salivate, and hurried into the McDonalds. We were rushed with Welcomes from the staff as we entered this McDonalds at around 12:30pm. I was first to order. “A McRib Combo”, I asked. The lady at the next register pointed out that for $1 more I could have a second McRib. How could I pass this up? The three of us all made the same order.

As we left, one of the members of the mob asked how long the McRib would be on the menu. The lady at the register indicated a month and a half! He also asked if the second McRib for $1 applied to all combos. The answer was it only applied to the McRib combo. After leaving with a satisfied feeling in my stomach, I searched out other signage at the McDonalds. Drive thru and a hanging banner welcomed us as we exited the parking lot.

Unfortunately, Kimberly was not able to join us at lunch time. As her hunger for the McRib verges on exceeding mine, I decided it was only fair that she get her feast as well. So back to McDonalds for supper. Kimberly took her McRib with the standard dehydrated onions (those served on other sandwiches at McDonalds), and passed her pickles to me. Kim made her order sans fries/drink ($5.58), and I ordered the combo with extra $1 McRib ($5.40). So offer the drink and fries to the next person in line if you do not want them!

(Yes, I am a Twins fan and have Irish heritage.)

The remains of our feast.

We were stuffed when done. I would have to say the supper McRibs tasted better than those from lunch. Perhaps it was that they were more fresh, or perhaps it was the company I was with. I couldn’t eat my second McRib I was so full, and Kim had a few bites from her second remaining so those made it home to the fridge. I almost forgot, we left behind a McRibLocator.com pen for the next folks to dine at the table we had been at.

Now to cut my hair….

A Sneak Peak into the Life of Alan Klein

Hello McRib Fans! This is Kimberly Klein, wife of  McRib Locator Creator, Alan Klein. While Alan has stepped away form the computer for a few moments, I decided to sneak in here to let you in on a little something going on around here over the last twelve months.

You see, last year around this time, we were contacted by McDonalds. The folks there loved our work, and wanted to include Alan in the Legends of McRib Launch event in NYC. We were thrilled and honored to be included in such an event. We packed our bags, picked up some new clothes, got our hair cut and flew to NYC.

While life could never be the same after such a fabulous event, we returned to Minnesota to our home, dogs, and jobs. We continued alerting McRib fans about sightings through our facebook page, twitter account and the Locator Map and Blog. It was fun hearing from other McRibs fans all over the world, and getting to know a few through our McRib Fan of the Week series.

However, about this time McRib sightings started to go down and eventually, there were no more McRibs at our local McDonalds. In a state of frustration, Alan publicly declared via Facebook and twitter that he would not cut his hair until he again had a McDonalds McRib… or the Vikings won the Superbowl. Ugh. At first, this was fun. He told people of his plan. They laughed it off.

After a month or so, he had to dig out his comb. After a few more months, Alan’s hair was noticeably longer and curlier than his typical uncombed mess.

Month by month, more and more people would ask him about cutting his hair. He faithfully stuck to his promise of not cutting his hair until he again was able to taste a McRib (being the Vikings had long ago given up on a Superbowl for the year).

We hosted family gatherings, attended weddings, and went on our annual anniversary vacation. People gave Alan a hard time. Everyone had their own story of why Alan was growing out his hair… maybe he was trying out for the Vikings, or trying to have longer hair than Kimberly, or quite possibly he just liked having a mullet. Alan was always quick to tell them what was really going on… He was waiting for the McRib.

Alan was a trooper this summer. There were many long hot days I was starting to wonder if he would give in (such as this McRib Fever day), however he stuck to it.

Now today, we are starting to hear of McRib reports in the southern states. Just as the weather is cooling off, football season is in full swing, and McDonalds Monopoly is in play, we again hear of McRibs tales.

It has been a year since Alan cut his hair. Though he may need to start sporting a ponytail, hopefully it will not be for long.

My plea to you, dear McRib Locator fans… Please continue checking your local McDonalds. Pin your sightings to the McRib Locator Map, and send any photos of you receipts, McRib meal, etc to photos@mcriblocator.com. We count on your sightings and photos to keep the website as accurate as possible. Additionally, this year, we are counting on you to help us pin down a local McDonalds for Alan to have his first McRib of the 2011 season.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

McRib as child’s name?

Last week, we caught through the Twitterverse that someone had included McRib when they had named their newborn child. Link to Birth Certificate Photo. boring_as_heck was then on a crusade for recognition that he had named his daughter after the saucy sandwich. McDonalds followed up by tweeting out some recognition his way.

Turns out that this fan really is not as die hard as we thought, now recanting and indicating that this was purely an exercise to dupe as many people as possible.

Despite the ruse, this likely has opened the door for fans to tell their significant other’s that this idea is not as crazy as it first sounds.

As for boring_as_heck, I suspect he will be forever watching his back as the Hamburglar will be on the watch for him.

Update:
Turns out boring_as_heck’s purpose in life really is to attempt to test companies/people to see if they will trust what is offered as “dope tweets”. http://corporatetwits.tumblr.com/#footer
Proving that they lack any humanity, I offer the following tweet they recently posted:
One wonders if at some point the jokes might end and legal action will be taken when a tweet is considered to be a threat rather than a “dope tweet”.
