Bad news for US McRib Fans

Delish nailed the headline on this news, “This Tragic McRib News Will Ruin Your Day”. Earlier today CNBC reported that the McRib release will be limited to only 8,000 of the roughly 14,350 US locations. While this story is making the news circuit not much further has been provided into the reasoning other than the standard statement about the McRib being a store/regional option.

This is of course unfortunate news. Have you found the McRib in the US this season? You can help McRib fans less fortunate by posting your sighting on our webpage, and emailing (photos@mcriblocator.com) us a photo of your receipt so that we can mark your report as confirmed. This way fans will know where they can go to get their fix.

Don’t have the McRib in your area? Let your local store manager know that you want the McRib! Your voice counts, as the more the hear you want the McRib, the more they will realize they made a mistake and should bring it back.

As always we thank YOU for your assistance!

@alRoker Ditch the #McRib Locator? Ouch.

Al Roker recently published an article from the today Show about how to make your own McRib. In this article, he starts off with “You can ditch the McRib locator and stop asking “When is the McRib back?” with Al Roker’s DIY McRib”. Ouch Mr. Roker, you don’t hear us talking about ditching the national news meteorologist to instead utilize the weather rock. Dig aside, in the video he does a quick showing of how one could make the McRib at home. The video certainly makes this look easy enough, and his use of Pork shoulder does a good job of mimmicing how the patty is made.

What do you think, are you ready to dive in an try your own or will you stick to the real thing?

Is the McRib really a product of the US Military?

Earlier this month Vox reported on a program at the Natick Soldier Center for Research and Development responsible for making food products for feeding troops in combat situations. As part of the research, the team was tasked with coming up with a less expensive steak option. As part of this research, they devised technology to restructure meat products to look more steak like for the soldiers. As is typical of innovations here, it appears the technology found commercial application and the McRib was a later product.

Latest information on upcoming US McRib Release

Roughly a month ago we relayed information that the McRib would be making a return in the United States in 2015. The information thus far is for at least a return to Northeast Pennsalvania restaurants.
Looking back to last year, we see these were locations within a drivable distance for many people that ended up not seeing the McRib return to their local McDonalds.2014 McRib NEPA release
We know a few locations will see a return in August, however more widespread starting in September. We have not received information about a return to other parts of the country as of this post. If we do, we will be certain to let you know!

If you find a McRib make sure to report it http://mcriblocator.com/report.html and send us a photo of your receipt (showing location and date purchased as well as your McRib order) to photos@mcriblocator.com . Thank you!

McRib Is Back – In New Zealand

As was the case last year, the McRib is again popping up at other locations around the globe. Most of the time these offering are very much like the offering in the United States, although sometimes takes an interesting twist (Japan’s McRib). Today, a fan in New Zealand (thanks Regan!) tipped us off to and provided confirmation of the McRib being back in New Zealand!

On their Twitter page, you can find some interesting promotional material. Granted, it isn’t that unusual for one to spill a lot of sauce if they try to eat a McRib in their car, this video shows a person getting pretty saucy in a dance studio:

Leading up to the release they also had a few teaser videos to get people excited:

This isn’t the first time we have watched an interesting video of the McRib’s return from this region of the world, you may recall Actress Claudia Black was part of an Australian promotion many years ago:

As always, if you find a McRib, please report it on our website then send us in a photo of your receipt showing purchase so that we may mark your sighting confirmed. Thanks again Regan!
