McRib Season Still Strong in Texas, California, Virginia

Fan Jim (thank you!) from the DC area happened to be down in Texas for the Christmas season and happened to walk into a pocket of McDonalds locations that are still going all out with serving the McRib.

There is a whole lot of Texas, and also a whole lot of different promotions between Houston and Dallas.

1) 2 McRibs for $5

2) Purchase a McRib meal get another McRib sandwich for $1

3) 1 McRib meal for $5.19 or 2 McRib meals for $7.69

Additionally, we are still getting confirmations in California and in Virginia. One thing that we have also been hearing is that there are still a number of locations offering the McRib, however only upon request (no mention on the menu, no promotional material). It seems odd that there would be no mention of an item they are serving. This is something we have encountered in previous years only in the immediate days following the McRib promotion ending as inventory is prepared and discarded as it no longer meets warmer freshness standards (this also makes little sense, at least put up a temporary sign saying gone this week or something), but not this far past the primary McRib promotional period.

McRib sneaks into Northeast US

As we have been reporting, the northeast US has been void of McRibs this get this season. While we had heard some rumblings that they may yet see it return, we didn’t hold our breath as McRib Patty production has already ended.

Turns out these rumors were true as we just received a McRib confirmation in western New Jersey. The fan indicated that this location did NOT have the McRib earlier this season, and the McRib they did receive was served in a McNugget container.

Perhaps we will see a second return of the McRib this year in more parts of the northeast. If you find one please add it on our map and send us an email with a confirmation photo of your receipt. We are still giving out window clings as supplies last, so act now!

McRib arrives in Budapest

Although the McRib hasn’t returned in parts of United States, that hasn’t stopped it from becoming available in other parts of the world. Earlier today we received a confirmation of McRib availability in Budapest, Hungary (thank you Hans G.). The price equates to about $2.79 US dollars.

Best translation I could get was “Seasoned, McRib® shaped pieces of pork, fresh onions, dill pickles, smoky BBQ sauce flavor kukoricadarás bun.”

After some more digging on the official McDonalds Hungary website and found not only is the McRib available, but also a Chicken Cesar sandwich on the same bun.

“Contact grilled seasoned chicken breast pieces molded, lettuce, rocket, shavings of Italian cheese, caesar sauce kukoricadarás bun”

While offerings of variants of the McRib have occurred in the past, we don’t recall an instance of the McRib being offered at the same time as another sandwich on the same McRib style bun. Perhaps more baffling is the Cesar Chicken sandwich received a much more appealing image for the website.

McRib returns in Minnesota

While the website is showing McRibs spreading across parts of the country, we were excited to find a nearby McDonalds offering the McRib. Kim swung by a Bloomington, MN McDonalds on her way home from work on a hunch. As she pulled up, there it was, the legendary McRib.

It was clear to her that the McRib had only just arrived on the menu as the employee taking her order had difficulty placing the order for this limited time sandwich. A manager came over to help, and mentioned that they were offering a $1 McRib when purchased with a combo!

Upon arriving home, I went out to the car to get something and noted the aroma of the McRib lingering in the car. This reminded me of trips in the past when we had to travel a fair distance to get a McRib.

We feasted on our first McRibs of the season, and they were fantastic.

While we have had our first feast of the season, rest assured we are going to continue trying to find one for you too. To that end, if/when you find a McRib, please mark your sighting at McRibLocator.com and be sure to send us a photo (photos@mcriblocator.com) of your receipt showing the purchase so that we may mark it as confirmed and help other fans track down this elusive sandwich.

Meanwhile in the Philippines – New Desire

Guatemala, Germany, and the United States are not the only locations currently serving the McRib around the globe. For what is being reported as the first time, the Philippines are getting into the mix. Not only are they offering the McRib as served in the United States and Germany, they are also offering an option without bun, add rice. This variant is being called the Glazed Pork BBQ with rice.

An in-depth well writen write-up on the offering can be found at Pinas Muna. It is clear from their write-up that they liked both variations and found it to be very popular in their area.

What do you think about the Glazed Pork BBQ with rice? If you had the choice between this and the regular McRib which would you pick?

First 2014 Confirmed US McRib sighting is
